Nova Scotia - Yes/No??
One of the most frequent questions I get every year - should we plan a day trip to Nova Scotia while we are visiting Acadia National Park. My simple answer is no. However, that answer is based on the following assumptions:
* Your Day Trip means one or two days on the island - Nova Scotia requires at least a week or better if you plan two weeks - way too much to see and very hard to select one area of the island
* If you plan to take the CAT out of Bar Harbor and take your vehicle then I think you will find the cost pretty steep - more than I would pay for a couple days on the island
* Most people who ask this question are not aware of how much there is to do on Mount Desert Island and the surrounding Downeast Region - I believe you will be better served by taking your time and fully enjoying what you choose to do - SLOOOOOOOW DOWN and enjoy sitting at the top of the mountains you climb, sit on the rocky coastline and enjoy the sound, smell and wildlife for hours at a time, watch sunset from Bass Harbor Light several evenings not just once, not twice but three or four, they are all different, take day trips to areas close to MDI, for example Stonington, Castine, Lubec - you get the idea.
* If you enjoy fine dining the stay in the USA! Unless you are in Halafax, and I don’t know why you would be, then do not expect to find many restaurants to write home about, they are few and far between.
* While I have not taken the Cat to NS, I have heard from several people who have. And, I hear it can be a pretty rough ride. Check that out before you jump on for a ride.
Any questions, send them along but you got my take on it.
No commentsThe Weather is Perfect - Come on UP!
If you are thinking about visiting Acadia National Park and Downeast Maine it is time to act!
The weather is beautiful, in the 70s, low humidity, sunny days with puffy white clouds - you gotta love it. And, if you can find lodging with hummingbird feeders you can watch the feeding frenzy as they prepare for their non-stop trip south - they will leave here soon as will the loons. My favorite time of the year in Maine is late August, September and October.
Gas Prices Down - Fall is Not Far Away
It is time to start planning your Fall Foliage trip to Acadia National Park and Downeast Maine. Gas prices have come down a little - $2.76 is common in the Augusta area right now. While planning your foliage trip may I suggest you plan to be on Mount Desert Island during the first two weeks of October. While can see some nice foliage late in September the peak color in Downeast Maine is typically during the first 2 weeks of October.
Visit my Acadia Vacations web site for additional information and for lodging recommendations.
