The Adventurist: Something Old, Something New–And 8x Better, Too
May 14, 2007
I have finally decided to stick with the original design of this site after a couple days experimenting with a new look.
If you have been by the past couple of days then you would have seen the new look. The new look was an attempt to give The Adventurist an easier navigation system.
This easier navigation system didn’t come without it’s own problems though. First off, it required me to downsize the information that I could share. That was my biggest problem–
After resorting back to the original look and feel of this site, I was able to add quite a few new items that I think will be a great addition here.
Probably the most notable will be all of the RSS feeds now available on the right hand side of this site. I have expanded this section from three feeds to nine. At the same time I also realized that not everyone was coming here for the mountain climbing and Everest stories–Now you will find quite a few new subjects featured in the RSS feeds found here. These range from Mountain Biking and general outdoor recreation items to Outdoor Gear. I am also including the feeds to “Climbing” Magazine as well as “Outside” and “National Geographic: Adventure”.
I did delete one, which I mentioned earlier this week, The Alpinist–but was able to add seven new ones and keep two of my old “standards” which seem to draw a lot of traffic from this site.
These new feeds will open up a broader world of adventure for everyone.
Another change that I have made is the repositioning of the “Links” area to the left hand side under “Top Posts”. This repositioning is only temporary though as I am currently in the process of developing a new “links” system that will place them on their own page. The reason I am doing this is quite simply–I am running out of space for all the great sites and links that I would like to bring everyone. Plus, this will now allow me to catagorize the links and make it much easier to find what you are looking for.
A couple more new additions that will be popping up here pretty soon will be an “About This Site” Page–which quite simply will give you the general history of how this site was started and the history behind it–and the second will be a “Submissions” page that will allow you to share your Adventures, Story Ideas, Trip Reports ect.. with The Adventurist.
I am hoping to expand upon the generalization that this site is just a climbing site. As the name would imply, Adventure is a very broad ranging subject and it will be my goal in the coming months to bring more of this great world of Adventure and Adventurists to you.
