All Feared Dead in Wreckage of Skydiving Plane in Washington State

October 9, 2007

Unfortunately, today I am hearing word that seven bodies were discovered late lastnight in the wreckage of a Cessna 208 Grand Caravan that went down in the Central Cascades of Washington State.  Three others are presumed dead as well.

The plane was found at 7:40 Pacific Time lastnight in the rugged mountains of Washington State after search and rescue personnel followed the scent of fuel from the wrecked plane.

Seven of the known ten people on the plane were discovered late lastnight before efforts had to be called off due to the time.

It was mentioned yesterday that the plane had a PLB–Personal Locator Beacon in the tail of the plane–but authorities were wondereing why this had not been triggered to go off.  Today we are getting a few more details concerning this as well.

At some point after the plane had went down, the tail had become seperated from the plane.  The Tail area of the Cessna has still not been found.

The FAA is scheduled to begin their investigation into the wreck today, and hopefully more details about what happened will follow.
