The Return of Man vs. Wild and Everest: Beyond the Limit

October 25, 2007

Two of Discovery Channel’s most popular programs are set to make a return in the coming days–Bear Grylls’ Man vs. Wild is set to make it’s new season debut on November 9th, while the new season of Everest: Beyond the Limit will be kicking off on October 30th–You will have to check your local listings for times.

Both of these programs have been pretty popular with the Discovery Channel viewers and both have spawned their own controversy as well.

Bear Grylls seems to be the new Discovery Channel “Poster Boy” for the coming season.  Not only has his show been expanded to a two hour program, but now we are learning that Bear will also be the host of a one hour program covering his recent trip to Mt. Everest this past spring.  We all know the controversial turn that one took…

Everest: Beyond the Limit’s format has also been expanded–not in it’s time slot, but in the length of the season.  Discovery Channel will be featuring four “Post” season episodes titled “After the Climb”, that will be taking a look at each of the climbers’ experiences, as well as feature a part with Everest Guide and Himex owner Russell Brice taking viewers questions.  This should be an interesting look at the man, who some suggest, is quite controversial when it comes to these high-altitude expeditions.  Anyone remember the death of David Sharp a year ago?

Both of these seasons are sure to be two of the most popular programs on Discovery Channel–if not on cable, altogether–and you can be sure that the programs will be ran through the mill, once again, by the viewers–I guess we will all have to just wait and see what new arguments will erupt from this season’s programming.

So, we’ve got a guy who let someone die on the mountain and a fraud, both making a killing off of Discovery Channel. Maybe I’d get a deal with Discovery if I lose the integrity?

First, Tom–let me clarify. Russell at first ‘claimed’ that he knew nothing about David Sharp unitl after he was already dead–it has been mentioned that a couple of members of his team did pass David on the mountain though..and originally, before it was pulled from the public–or changed–that his team contacted Russell about David before he died–so I guess we all have to take it at face value..

Perhaps Discovery could use the Trifecta..you should contact them.

As far as Mr. Grylls–I am hoping that his program changes a bit and he learned from his past mistakes–I am not so sure though–on his blog, it currently states his program is the #1 show on cable..lol…after a bit of research–it doesn’t even look like it is in the top 15..lol Thought about running another story on this..but haven’t as of yet.

Jason, I just might have to do that. After all, the Trifecta has SEVERAL seasons built in just by the nature of the challenges! Might help finance it too :D

Tom, did you go to school in Lathrup Village?

Nope. I’m not even sure where that is to be honest ;)

Where is season three- Everest Beyond the Limit ?

  11. Jason A. Hendricks on April 23rd, 2008 10:45 pm

    Hey Aaron,

There are quite a few people wondering the same thing. Unfortunately I have been able to touch on this subject a bit. There will be no season three of Everest: Beyond the Limit. It seems that Discovery Channel failed to pick up a third season of this program. One of the reasons has to do with the Chinese Expedition to take the Olympic Torch up Mt. Everest. As you may know, they have relentlessly taken over the North side of Mt. Everest-unfortunately this is where Everest: Beyond the Limit is filmed. Russell Brice, the expedition leader on the series is at South Basecamp with one of last season’s members, David Tait, currently. He is not leading expeditions this season, but will be back next year. Don’t know if it will be filmed though. Contact Discovery Channel through their website to voice your opinion. Perhaps they will reconsider if enough people are heard from.

    Cheers-
