Planet Green Network Set To Launch June 4th

April 23, 2008

With the world’s interest on “green issues” expanding by the day, it is of little wonder why two of the world’s top media conglomerates has started to pursue interests in these fields.

In the coming months, Discovery Communications, which runs such cable channels as The Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, Discovery Kids, The Military Channel, The Science Channel, and FitTV among many others, will launch a new channel specifically geared towards ‘green issues.’

Planet Green, Discovery Communications latest endeavor, will kick things off on June 4th, but already there is quite the buzz going around about this latest project.  One of the reasons may be the addition of an eco-newscast hosted by ABC News anchor Bob Woodruff.

Bob Woodruff has been a correspondent for ABC News since 1996.  Many of you may remember  him as the reporter who was involved in a horrendous roadside blast in Iraq in 2006.  Woodruff suffered severe brain injuries as a result of the blast while he was covering a story for ABC News.  It would take 13  months before Woodruff would be able to get back to work.  Bob Woodruff was recently endowed with a Peabody Award for his ABC News series “Wounds of War–The Long Road Home of Our Nations Veterans.”  He definitely has some experience in the field when it comes to journalism and will immediately add credibility to the launching of the Planet Green Network.

Bob Woodruff’s new eco-newscast will be taking a look at subjects ranging from climate impact, environmental policy, political debate, and world events with an environmental twist.  The series will include studio-based round table discussions, feature stories, and lively debates.  The series will draw on resources from ABC News and it’s correspondents based around the world.

“Planet Green is committed to broadening awareness about the state of the environment and the role each of us can play in securing a brighter future for our planet,” said Eileen ONeill, president and general manager, Planet Green. “Bob brings a depth of global experience coupled with an unparalleled journalistic integrity to this important conversation.

With the backing of Discovery Communications and ABC News, this new network should get a rousing welcome in the Outdoors community when it launches June 4th. With the focus solely based on not how we play, but protecting where we play,  it should give an interesting twist on how we can all help the planet to become a bit more Green.

I live in Alaska and have studied green products and procedures for many years. I am highly interested in your program. For 20 years I have been looking at ways to improve not only building but also environmental designs. I have developed 16 procedures onways to clean up contaminated waters and earth. we have desiged procedures all around the world and have a few that no company has. I would like to be a part of your program.

Got something to say?
