April 25, 2008
More information is emerging on climber William Brant Holland, who a couple of days ago became the first person kicked off Mt. Everest for having a Pro-Tibet flag in one of his bags.
William Brant Holland was in the last stages of completing the famed seven summits. Mt. Everest and Mt. Vinson (Antarctica) were the only remaining peaks he had not summited on his quest. The seven summits represent the highest peak on each of the seven continents.
William Brant Holland is from Midlothian, Virginia–a suburb of Richmond. He graduated last year from Montana State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. Previously, Holland had been a tree service operator. He now considers himself a world traveler. He is the son of a prominent Richmond, Virginia doctor–Dr. William E. Holland.
William Brant Holland, or Brant, as he refers to himself on his Myspace page, has drawn international attention for being being kicked off Mt. Everest recently after having a Pro-Tibetan flag in his possesion. The last update had Brant being forced back to Kathmandu by Nepali officials, where it is suspected he will be kicked out of the country.
His actions, after signing a list of rules before being allowed on a permit, has put the whole Himalayan Guides Expedition team in jeopardy. The Himalayan Guides Expedition team could be banned from Mt. Everest pending investigation by Nepal’s authorities.
