Top 100 Family Campgrounds of 2008

May 10, 2008

ReserveAmerica has put out it’s latest installment of the 100 Top Family Campgrounds in the United States. This is the sixth year for the list which tries to showcase some of the ‘hidden gem’ locations that many of us have perhaps never visited.

The Top 100 Family Campgrounds were compiled based on user testimonials, campground ratings, and feedback from park rangers, management, and campers throughout the year. In the process, nearly 4,000 separate campgrounds were rated, with the best of the best being featured in their Top 100.

The list is actually quite interesting. Most of us can probably guess that California is well represented, as is Florida. Probably the biggest surprise to me personally is the fact that New Hampshire and Massachusetts are well represented. New Hampshire has 7 separate campgrounds listed in the Top 100, with Massachusetts following up with 5. Colorado and Michigan only have two a piece, with my own personal state of Indiana not even making the list! Come on guys, what’s up with that? Not one? Perhaps you should talk to me next year, I know a couple of good ones. Tennessee only has one, as well.

Being a list of ‘Family’ campgrounds could add a little weight to this list. For the most part, my family does the rugged, no convenience camping-that way we can really get in the backwoods and do some major exploring. I think they are going for all-around convenience, dedicated to the whole family. Kind of takes the fun out of it if you ask me;)

Anyways, the list is still quite an interesting read. Perhaps you can get some ideas for that family outing you have been aching to enjoy, or perhaps even discover a new place to pitch that tent and enjoy the great outdoors. Whatever the case may be, Click through the following link and see how your state measures up. I know you have to agree with me on one thing-We all love lists!
