Swimming With Sharks-Steve Casimiro Style
May 17, 2008
The first time you swim with sharks should be dramatic. There should
be storm-tossed seas, fang-like Farallon Islands jutting from the
water, hungry great whites thrashing as the first mate chums stinky
fish guts overboard. You’re shivering into your cold chain mail shark
suit as the grizzled sea dog captain growls, “Arr! Don’t be a-worryin’,
lad! I’ve only lost three customers to the sharks—this week, harhar!”Yes, that would be a great shark story.
But it’s not my shark story.
Steve Casimiro, who blogs for the National Geographic: Adventure Blog, takes us on an interesting journey today. He travels to the Galapagos Islands, well, Isla Isabella to be exact, to do a little shark sight-seeing.
Many of us love to watch those Animal Planet and Discovery Channel specials-I know Shark Week is a personal favorite of my own, but I am not to sure I would venture to the far reaches of the world and dangle myself as bait to a bunch of sharks. Steve writes with his great wit, as usual, and actually let’s us in to his experience. It makes a great read, albeit a bit different than Shark Week. Thanks Steve.
