The Adventurist Joins Outdoor Bloggers Summit (and a possible HUGE announcement, keep reading)
May 17, 2008
I have been meaning to do this for about two weeks now, but I figured this was as good a time as any–plus, I have been issued a challenge. (more on that in a minute)
The Adventurist has teamed up with the Outdoor Bloggers Summit. I actually happened on to this wonderful organization after running across a badge on another site that lead me there. (Forgive me for forgetting the site)
The Outdoor Bloggers Summit is a group of like-minded individuals that blog about the outdoors. It is a place to share information, gain some support and know-how and help us writers along as we venture on this path. It is about sharing, caring, and ideas related to the outdoors, and how we can have a bigger impact through our writing.
The Outdoor Bloggers Summit Mission Follows, Plus The Big Announcement. Read On.
- Support conservation efforts and positively portray the value of outdoor pursuits
- Encourage and support the efforts of existing outdoor bloggers
- Offer incentive and support for new bloggers who might wish to blog about the outdoors
- Unite the voices of bloggers so we can speak as one about critical issues that affect outdoor pursuits.
- Provide a clearinghouse for information about outdoor pursuits
As you can see from this statement, it has a lot of added benefits for the Outdoor blogger. I have jumped into this organization with both feet and have met some very wonderful people along the way. People that think and speak their minds–a community based on promoting, conserving, and utilizing resources that we, as outdoor writers think and care about
Many of the Outdoor Bloggers Summit members are very active in their pursuits. They range from hunting to fishing to hiking, climbing, conservation and the great outdoors. I have added links to all of my fellow member’s blogs on my LINKS page. Over the coming days and weeks ahead I will probably be introducing you a bit to their sites, as well as offering a little more of what the Outdoors Bloggers Summit is all about. Including my personal involvement.
The Challenge
I was actually planning on announcing my involvement with the Outdoor Bloggers Summit after the current season on Mt. Everest came to a conclusion. After my daily visit to their blog, that soon changed.
Every once in awhile the Outdoor Blogger Summit will issue a challenge to get members to really think and come together as one on certain issues related to the outdoors. This is meant to perhaps shed some light on little discussed issues, as well as possibly influence others to take a look. My first challenge has been issued.
“Next week, May 19 - 25, 2008, I want to offer a challenge to everyone
who reads this blog. I’m calling it the “What Can We Do, What Should We
Do” challenge. It really has two parts. “What Can We Do” means what can
we as individual hunters/anglers and bloggers do to
support and promote the activities that we love. “What Should We Do”
addresses the bigger issue of what the community as a whole, and the
community organizations that ask for our money, should do to promote
and protect hunting and fishing and all outdoor sports.
The premise is that many organizations associated with combating anti-hunting and anti-fishing groups are asking for money to fight these groups and are getting little results from these efforts. I think the goal with the challenge is to offer up a few better options than the same ol’ tug-o-war that has went on for years. It is a good challenge, and one that I will be looking into. Within the next week you should see a post made in this direction with my own personal thoughts on these issues, as well as what some of the other members are posting about the same issue. Should be fun.
A Bit Of A New Direction
Issues? When did we start covering ISSUES?
The Adventurist has been around for quite some time. I take great pride in what I have been able to do and accomplish along the way. Everyone knows I have a love for climbing and adventure. I have gained a pretty good audience that comes here for related climbing news, the latest on Mt. Everest (this is my second year covering this, you know) and a few other adventures along the way.
When I first started The Adventurist I had a plan. I have stuck to my guns and have been able to continue to grow the site, continuously. Climbing and Mt. Everest are not the only things this plan involved, but has become a bit of the “bread and butter” if you will. In an effort to always evolve and expand, as I think any good site should, I am always on the look-out for new opportunities and avenues to reach you, my reader.
In two years’ time, I have barely scratched the surface of a few other things related to the Outdoors and Adventure communities. Conservation, Nature, Hunting, Fishing, Ecology, hiking–things that all of us can do everyday to give us more enjoyment in the outdoors and a bit closer to home. I will be taking steps to offer more of this type of information–I have already started to do this with a couple of fishing pieces of late, but after the climbing season on Everest is over, I will be jumping in a bit more.
Don’t think that the adventure won’t be there as well. I will still be covering Everest for the rest of 2008 and beyond, as well as other ongoing adventures, but also covering a bit more of the enjoyment all of us can find while out in our own neck of the woods. I am very active with this site. I update, on average, three times a day and sometimes many more. I have actually made 10 separate posts in a single day before, so I should just be offering up a bit more variety and drawing the adventure and Outdoors crowds a bit closer together. I am sure climbers will grab a rod and reel once in awhile, and I am sure hunters walk some pretty steep hills in pursuit of the hunted. It is my goal to bring this all together and offer a bit more community. Perhaps you won’t read everything, but that interest will still be there and be covered. As always, I will try to make it as interesting as possible for everyone involved and hopefully be able to make everyone think just a bit more.
The HUGE Anouncement
I know, I know. I have made you wait around this long and you are still reading, so I should just tell you, right? Well, it’s not that easy. Details are still being worked out and discussions are still taking place–but there is a possibility…no wait….I can’t….you will have to check back in for further details in the coming days….I will say that it might involve one ugly moose…but then again, who am I to judge looks? Stay tuned for a future update..
Cheers-
