Top 5 Gift Ideas For Father’s Day From The Adventurist

“What would you like for Father’s Day?”
I am sure that I am not the only one that has heard that question this week.
Father’s Day represents a day to celebrate the men who brought us in to this world, as well as the beginning of summer. Most of our father’s were the one’s who originally introduced us to the great outdoors. So, without much adieu, I am going to offer up my personal gift list of items I am looking for in 2008. So, to my wife and kids, I say “Check it often, I will accept these items graciously and with appreciation, even after Father’s Day.”
5. Marmot Oracle Jacket: This nice little jacket is light, waterproof, and just what you need for those breezy evening get-aways on the trails. REI currently offers these jackets up at $109-$160. If your my wife and your reading this, I like it in Fire/Lava. Just thought I would throw out the suggestion.
4. Thule Slipstream Kayak Carrier-This nifty little gadget fits on top of your vehicle, making kayak
transportation a breeze. No more popping the back window on my Ford Explorer. Easy access, easy haul. Moosejaw currently offers up this variation for $300. Anytime you can find an easier way to transport your gear, that’s just more time you’ll have enjoying the gear.
3. Redfish 14 Kayak–Well, if your going to buy a Kayak hauler, you might as well buy a kayak, too. I like the new Redfish 14 Kayak offered up by Heritage Kayaks. Probably the biggest advantage is that this kayak is 100% recyclable. Not only can you glide across most waters smoothly, but you can feel good about your effects on the environment.
2. Supernatural 55 Backpack: This Mountain Hardware pack is good for anything from day hiking that local trail to a full-on three or four day excursion into the outdoors. It has a nice body-hugging shape and plenty of support to even the load. Total weight is only 4 pounds, making this one an easy lug down the trail. Suggested Retail: $230.00
1. Leki Jasper Anti-Shock Trekking Poles: I never really understood the value of trekking poles till I went hiking in the Smokey Mountains. Those hills can be a nightmare for both your back and legs. Times like that deserve some added support, as well as, gripping ability. With Leki’s anti-shock system built in, you can’t go wrong. These are $120, but well worth the investment.
Well, that sums up my Top 5 for Father’s Day, even though my personal list could reach hundreds of products. I recently came across a bonus item that I am going to throw in for good measure, but I am sure my wife won’t be spending $1000, so I might have to keep this one till Christmas.
Gear Bonus
This one is coming by way of the GearCrave Blog, who recently highlighted this awesome Alta One-Speed Bike. I know, many of you are thinking, “One Speed?” That is right. I bike quite often and there is nothing more frustrating than having to reset gears while your biking around town. This bike fixes that issue and gives you one nice gear. No more changing. Besides that, the bike is sleek and comes with a great look. Just what you need around town while your on the go. Go check it out.
By the way, Happy Father’s Day Dad!
