Jeanne Stawiecki, Mountaineer, Claims Two Guinness World Records

June 17, 2008

Jeanne Stawiecki has been entered into the Guinness Book of World Records for two amazing feats. Some of you may remember Jeanne Stawiecki and her famous summit of Mt. Everest in 2007 that I covered. Jeanne was 56 at the time. Mt. Everest completed her attempt at climbing the seven highest summits on each continent in the world. The Guinness Book of World Records has recognized Jeanne Stawiecki as being the oldest woman to complete the Seven Summits.

Along with this honor, Jeanne Stawiecki has also been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records for achieving the fastest time in seven marathons ran on seven different continents, by a woman. These are two incredible feats when you think that at 40, Jeanne Stawiecki was smoking two packs of cigarettes a day–

She is also the first person to ever achieve both feats, yet, at this time, it has not been recorded as another world record.

I want people to know I am an ordinary person doing something extraordinary,” Stawiecki says. “The way you think makes all the difference in the world. If you think and believe you are a success, you will be.

The above quote is coming from an article on A-B-C of Mountaineering.  To read more about Jeanne, and how she went from two packs of smokes a day to marathon running and mountaineering, click over there to read the full article.

I have always loved the concept of ‘ordinary persons doing extraordinary things’…
That to me speaks to the essence of the adventurer…
And to most of the other advances in life we have made…
