I am grieved to hear of the casualties. My thoughts and strongest wishes for good luck go with all of the climbers and the rescue teams on the mighty K2.
Feel free to leave your thoughts and prayers
Jason, thanks for trying to make sense of this confusing situation. I’ve spent all morning searching for updates. I hope the climbers trapped above the Bottleneck are reached and return safely. I can think of nothing else today. Thanks for keeping us informed.
praying for gerry hope all works out ok kevin/brigid collins
I appreciate the thoughts and prayers for these climbers. I will be making another update shortly. I don’t know if I am making, or can make sense of this tragedy unfolding, but I do try to represent the events the best that I can, in a way that is respectful to those involved. These guys have wife’s and kids, people that love them like we are loved–it is sad. I truly do feel for them and their families.
Please feel free to share more of your thoughts and prayers.
All thoughts and prayers are with every climber out there on K2. It’s a pity communication is so bad (understandably of course given the circumstances) - the family and friends must be extremely worried. Here’s to a safe retreat by all who are up there.
All thoughts and prayers to all at K2 and their families and friends.
Our prayers and thoughts go out to those trapped on K2 and we hope for their safe return. We have received private email that Jumik, lead sherpa of the Korean team, died when the ice broke but reports seem to still be conflicting. He just had a son born on Friday and we are not sure he even knows of the birth. While we have great concern for the climbers, we have great love for the sherpas who risk their lives to earn a living for their families and pray they all survive.
Very sad about Jumik Sherpa–I am hoping that his isn’t true for the sake of his family and child. I am still not seen a release of names that may have been involved in this tragedy. I will be posting another report later today.
Thanks for everyone’s thoughts and prayers on this tragic event. As you can see, there are some people very close to this situation coming in with updates. They will appreciate your kind words and prayers.
I am hoping this turns out to not be of the scope that is currently being presented, but I have a feeling that this is a bad, bad day for the world of mountaineering.
My thought goes to the climbers, their family and friends. I wish for strenght to all of you. I hope everything that can be done, will be done to try to save those who can be saved.
We have received confirmation from base camp that Jumik Bhote and Pasang Bhote both died on K2. We are saddened for their families, friends and their village in Nepal. They were with the Korean expedition. As they are Buddhists, we pray for a safe journey for them to their next life.
[...] lead Sherpa of the Korean team, had a son born on Friday. There is an official thread for prayers here. This is very sad news. We will update this site as soon as [...]
I wish everyone involved in this tragedy, courage, strength and peace in this life and the next.
I read in one AP report that d’Aubarede had said before he passed on K2, “They put me through the wringer, but it’s so beautiful. The night will be long but beautiful.”
Jane,
I think that is the sweetest thing I have ever heard.
