    Podcast: Adventure Edge Radio-Episodes 4 & 5

Adventure Edge Radio with Jimmy BuffThe Sierra Blogging Post has released two more podcasts of Adventure Edge Radio with Jimmy Buff.  I have been following this series since it’s inception and it has proven to be quite a resource for adventure news and information.  Somehow I got behind a week with my updates to the podcast, but that’s alright because I am making up for it today by giving you a double dose.

Episode 4 of Adventure Edge Radio takes us back to the recent tragedy on K2.  While I covered this event myself, Adventure Edge Radio adds in some nice quality sound bites and some updated information.  Jimmy Buff also talks about the recent Leadville 100 mountain bike race–where 7 time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong made his recent return to cycling, albeit on a different kind of bike.  The Leadville 100 has become known as one of the toughest and most prestigious endurance mountain bike races on the planet.  If K2 and the Leadville 100 are not enough, Adventure Edge Radio also covers an interesting kayaking trip–1700 miles from Chicago to New York City solo.

Along with the news, Episode 4 also talks with Charlie Engle–a world reknown endurance athlete who has made a complete 360.  Charlie talks about his alcohol and drug addictions, coming clean, and being the first man to run the 4,500 mile Sahara Desert.  His interview is inspiring and proves that lives can be changed.  It’s a good message.

Jimmy Buff tops things off with his gear profile on Bicycle helmets and then his always entertaining Final Word.  Overall, this comes out as one of the better episodes with a bunch of good information and reminds me of why I like this podcast so much.  If you would like to listen to Episode 4 of Adventure Edge Radio with Jimmy Buff, you can Play It straight from the Sierra Trading Post blog or Download It for your Ipod consumption.  I highly recommend both.

Episode 5 of Adventure Edge Radio takes a look at the recent earthen dam collapse at the Grand Canyon.  After a series of heavy rains in the region, an earthen dam collapsed, leading to the eventual rescue of nearly 200 people.  This event has made some national news with a very high profile search and rescue taking place.  Luckily, no lives were lost.

Jimmy Buff goes from the Grand Canyon to the Appalachian Trail where Karl Meltzer is attempting to post the fastest Appalachian Trail excusion in history.  Unfortunately, as we listen to this podcast, it is noted that Karl has fallen a bit off the record pace but is still continuing on with his plans.

Episode 4 talked a bit about the Leadville 100 mountain bike race and this week, Jimmy Buff heads back to Leadville for the runing portion of this event.  No record times were broken this year, as runners had to contend with high altitude, cold weather, and even some rain, snow, and hail–ouch!

The feature interview for the week is with National Geographic explorer and adventurer Jon Bowermaster.  Jon talks a bit about how technology has changed over the course of his 20 years of adventures, how he went from being a writer to becoming an explorer and adventurer with National Geographic, and what adventure today means compared to adventure 100 years ago.  This is definitely a good interview from someone actually out there doing it.  By the way, on one of Jon’s recent excursions to the Antarctic, he and his National Geographic team played an instrumental part in saving quite a few lives associated with a sinking tourist ship.  Jon talks about that, as well.

The Adventure Edge Radio gear highlight takes a look at kayaks, and as always, Jimmy Buff offers up his final word.  To listen to Episode 5 of Adventure Edge Radio, you can Play It Now or Download It to your favorite listening device or PC.

That should get us all back to speed on the Adventure Edge Radio with Jimmy Buff podcast.  You can listen to the two latest episodes back-to-back and an enjoy an informative and lazy hour.  Check back next week when I will offer up the latest update on Adventure Edge Radio.
