Lengendary Aviator Steve Fossett’s Plane Found, But Where’s Steve Fossett?
October 2, 2008
Steven Fossett’s plane has finally been discovered. News came out yesterday that a local ski guide had discovered some papers belonging to the legendary adventurer, while he was out hiking a trail above Mammoth Lakes, California. These papers, which included an FAA plane license from the state of Illinois, would become instrumental in helping authorities locate the wreckage of Mr. Fossett’s plane.
This morning, the Associated Press began running a news item saying Mr. Fossett’s plane had been found. The plane, which had been missing for a year, was discovered on a mountainside. Authorities said the plane looked to have taken a direct hit into the rugged Sierra Nevada mountainside. The area of the finding is part of the Inyo National Forest.
Anderson said no human remains were found in the wreckage.
“It’s quite often if you don’t find remains within a few days, because of animals, you’ll find nothing at all,” Anderson said.
Teams led by the sheriff’s department would continue the search for remains Thursday, while the National Transportation Safety Board was en route to probe the cause of the crash, he said.
This is coming from the AP piece that is currently making the media rounds. Steve Fossett’s plane has been found, but Steve Fossett has not. This should play up to more of the conspiracy theorists who have been suggesting that Steven Fossett may have faked his own death. More than likely, either Steve died on impact and was eaten by the wildlife, or he survived and left the wreckage of the plane. With his money and identification being found yesterday on a trail, something that most people would have on their personal body, I would say that it is very likely that his body was scavenged. Authorities are still searching for any more clues to finding Fossett, but it may just end up being that this is all we get.
If there are any new updates or new information, I will update this post.
