American Alpine Journal Fills A Niche: The Alpine Briefs
December 3, 2008
With the demise of The Alpinist, the alpine climbing community was left with a void. After many years of publishing one of the most sought-after and elegant climbing publications in the world, The Alpinist was hit with the recent economic crunch and forced to close it’s doors. Whether they stay closed for good could be another topic of discussion altogether. (you can read my previous article about The Alpinist closing here.)
No sooner had The Alpinist closed it’s doors, than another big entity in the world of alpine climbing decided it was time to try to fill the void. The American Alpine Journal has launched The Alpine Briefs website. The Alpine Briefs will focus on climbing news, climbing reports, mountaineering and alpine climbing. They are also promising to reprint articles that have appeared in The American Alpine Journal, one of the most historically significant and accurate accounts of mountain climbing history over the past 50 years, on the new site. That will be exciting news to anyone who has spent much time trying to navigate their way through the AAJ archives.
The American Alpine Journal’s latest news should come as a relief to anyone that enjoys mountaineering, or reading of the great mountaineers’ adventures. This should give all of us another source for some great reading, photos, and climbing news.
If you would like to scope out their site, then you can follow this link. If you would be interested in reading more about what is going to be involved with The Alpine Briefs, you can read this good overview from The Adventure Blog, and finally, if you want to take this story back to it’s original source–stop by Dougald McDonald’s The Mountain World blog. That should wrap it up;)

cool post, but ya got a big mistake in the second sentence of the second paragraph (” The American Alpine Insititute has launched The Alpine Briefs website. “)
–the American Alpine Journal launched it. AAI is a guiding company in Bellingham.
–the correct link for the AAJ:
http://www.americanalpineclub.org/pages/page/47
