Adventure Gear: Artevist T-Shirts
I can’t remember ever doing a write-up on a specific clothing manufacturer in the past. One of the reasons is that clothes are a dime-a-dozen and everyone has their own tastes. That is not to say there aren’t some great companies out there, but who wants to read about something that you would never wear?
Artevist T-shirts gets the distinction of getting my first clothing line mention for a number of reasons:
- They are plastic Free (all designs are woven in to the fabric)
- They are sweatshop free (no one likes to support very cheap labor)
- They are Logo Free (You won’t find an Artevist Logo on any of their products)
- They are all made in the USA (reason enough)
- They pay 1% of profits towards saving the planet
- They pay their artists through royalties for the designs. (Nice touch)
- and last..al of their shirts are limited edition runs. (500 of each is the limit)
These features offer up an original concept to environmentally friendly clothing. All t-shirts are made with cotton, or a cotton/bamboo mix that is even more environmentaly friendly and sound. Anyone ever wear a bamboo shirt before?
Adventure Gear: HangTimer Brings iPhone and iPod To Adventure Life
A really cool application has just been released that will track how much air you get in those great adventure sports. When bragging rights are of the utmost importance, now you will have your proof with the touch of a button!
The HangTimer application is compatible with all iPhones and the iPod Touch and even features a few more features if you are lucky enough to own an iPhone 3G. Here’s the lowdown on what this application can do for you.
- Records your hangtime
- Records your 10 best jumps
- Auto-locates ski resorts
- Features trail maps and snow reports
- Mountain info and live webcams
With the added benefits of a GPS navigational system found in the iPhone 3G, you will also be able to track your top speed at takeoff, map where your big air occured, and even track yourself on Google Maps.
That’s a pretty impressive list of features that should benefit all adventurers. Not only does this new iPhone and iPod application work while skiing and mountain biking, but they say it can even track the air you get on rollercoasters etc. The application was developed to work with the iPhone’s accelerometer using a sophisticated air and mapping device to calculate the speed and air that you obtain, while also tracking your progress.
This seems to be a really cool and handy application. It almost makes me want to run out and purchase that new iPhone 3G and give this thing the big air it craves. For more information on the HangTimer, please visit their website.
Top 5 Gift Ideas For Father’s Day From The Adventurist
“What would you like for Father’s Day?”
I am sure that I am not the only one that has heard that question this week.
Father’s Day represents a day to celebrate the men who brought us in to this world, as well as the beginning of summer. Most of our father’s were the one’s who originally introduced us to the great outdoors. So, without much adieu, I am going to offer up my personal gift list of items I am looking for in 2008. So, to my wife and kids, I say “Check it often, I will accept these items graciously and with appreciation, even after Father’s Day.”
5. Marmot Oracle Jacket: This nice little jacket is light, waterproof, and just what you need for those breezy evening get-aways on the trails. REI currently offers these jackets up at $109-$160. If your my wife and your reading this, I like it in Fire/Lava. Just thought I would throw out the suggestion.
4. Thule Slipstream Kayak Carrier-This nifty little gadget fits on top of your vehicle, making kayak
transportation a breeze. No more popping the back window on my Ford Explorer. Easy access, easy haul. Moosejaw currently offers up this variation for $300. Anytime you can find an easier way to transport your gear, that’s just more time you’ll have enjoying the gear.
3. Redfish 14 Kayak–Well, if your going to buy a Kayak hauler, you might as well buy a kayak, too. I like the new Redfish 14 Kayak offered up by Heritage Kayaks. Probably the biggest advantage is that this kayak is 100% recyclable. Not only can you glide across most waters smoothly, but you can feel good about your effects on the environment.
2. Supernatural 55 Backpack: This Mountain Hardware pack is good for anything from day hiking that local trail to a full-on three or four day excursion into the outdoors. It has a nice body-hugging shape and plenty of support to even the load. Total weight is only 4 pounds, making this one an easy lug down the trail. Suggested Retail: $230.00
1. Leki Jasper Anti-Shock Trekking Poles: I never really understood the value of trekking poles till I went hiking in the Smokey Mountains. Those hills can be a nightmare for both your back and legs. Times like that deserve some added support, as well as, gripping ability. With Leki’s anti-shock system built in, you can’t go wrong. These are $120, but well worth the investment.
Well, that sums up my Top 5 for Father’s Day, even though my personal list could reach hundreds of products. I recently came across a bonus item that I am going to throw in for good measure, but I am sure my wife won’t be spending $1000, so I might have to keep this one till Christmas.
Gear Bonus
This one is coming by way of the GearCrave Blog, who recently highlighted this awesome Alta One-Speed Bike. I know, many of you are thinking, “One Speed?” That is right. I bike quite often and there is nothing more frustrating than having to reset gears while your biking around town. This bike fixes that issue and gives you one nice gear. No more changing. Besides that, the bike is sleek and comes with a great look. Just what you need around town while your on the go. Go check it out.
