Korean Team Of Organ Donors To Attempt Summit On Island Peak

A group of 10 organ transplant recipients and donors from Korea will be attempting to scale one of the Himalayas most prized peaks.  Island Peak stands at 6,189 meters and offers a quick challenge to climbers that are usually training for bigger peaks-namely Mt. Everest.  Island peak is not the hardest peak, nor the tallest, but it is a peak that nearly every climber in the Himalayas attempt at one time or another.  Add in the factor that the group going has all donated a part of themselves (literally) and will be climbing in the Himalayan winter, we suddenly start to get an understanding that this expedition may be something to keep our eyes on.

Fall 2007 Everest Expedition

ExWeb is reporting a few more details on the only Expedition taking place this fall on Mt. Everest.  The Expedition, as I mentioned in a previous post, is a group of nine climbers from Thailand.

“The Unlimited Thai Spirit” Expedition to Mt. Everest is being conducted in celebration of the 80th birthday of Thailand’s King.

The Expedition will first be heading to Lhukla on Sept. 5 and from there they will be headed to Island Peak for a couple of weeks of acclimatization and training runs.  The Thai Expedition is hoping for a summit run at some point in the end of October.

Thamserku Trekking is outfitting the expedition.  There will be nine members making a summit run with another seven stationed at Basecamp.  They will be climbing with and supported by a group of 12 Sherpa from Thamserku Trekking.
