The $1,000,000 Bigfoot Photo Search
In an effort to promote a new line of trail cameras, Bushnell Outdoor Products and Field and Stream Magazine have come up with an ingenius marketing campaign. They are offering up $1,000,000 to anyone who can show “conclusive photographic evidence that Bigfoot exists.”
This new promotion is guaranteed to spark some interest, as well as debate. Many ’supposed’ photos of Bigfoot have been around for quite some time, but none of them have been proven to be the ‘real deal’ and, actually, most of them have proved to be nothing more than creative endeavors from people looking to capitalize on publicity.
Field and Stream and Bushnell Outdoors Products will likely spark the biggest search for the ‘real deal’ Bigfoot in recent memory. They are hoping that most of the trackers will, of course, use their new line of trail cameras in the process.
Ed Zieralski, a writer for the San Diego Union-Tribune recently put up an article about his search for the Sasquatch, or Bigfoot, or whatever other name it goes by. Last year, photos started flying around the internet of Jacob’s Creature, some startling images that many had suggested were Bigfoot. Others claimed it was just a mangy bear. Jacob’s Creature went on to become the big hit of the internet world for a few days and sparked much interest around the world, in the Press. This new hunt for Bigfoot could spark the same degree of interest.
With many of the known photos being proven to be creative endeavors, it will be interesting to see the types of submissions that this contest invokes. The contest began on June 3rd and runs through the end of 2008. At that ime, if photographic evidence has been concluded as being real, the wining photographer will win an unprecedented $1,000, 000.

Rick Jacobs Creature Gaining National and International Headlines
When I first put up the article on Rick Jacobs “Creature”, I had no idea the media interest that would ensue. I caught word of this quite by accident while doing research for this site and thought it would be a fun post.
Now after 60,000 visits in two days to The Adventurist–shattering all previous records on this site–it seems that this story is just beginning to take off–I have had close to 100 comments in two days flood to this site, over Jacobs Creature, and many more are commenting from around the world in some of the top forums on the web..
I did find the links to Mr. Jacobs photos. These photos were released exclusively by Mr. Jacobs in hopes of finding out what this creature could be. I posted the links to the photos. Newspapers and media organizations, I am assuming, did not know where to find the photos–hence, the immediate blast in traffic to my site. The photos are, now, pretty well widespread.
Fox News, CBS, CNN, as well as a host of other media in the United States, have picked up on Rick Jacobs story. The United States isn’t alone.
India and China are both running stories in today’s papers and it seems like this just might catch a rather large International wave of publicity for Mr. Jacobs–who I have not seen any comments from since the article in the Associated Press.
There is definately a huge interest in these photos–through reader’s comments and posts we have been able to learn a lot about what might be creeping around in our woods. While conducting a recent poll on Topix, where I am also an Editor, an astounding 60% of people believe that Bigfoot either could, or does exist.
Whether he does or not–whether he lives in Pennsylvania or not–is not for me to decide. I have done my part and brought this to everyone’s attention in hopes drawing in a bit of discussion here–I had know idea how big that “bit” would be.
Thanks goes out to everyone who has stopped by the last couple of days with their comments and thoughts–without you readers, the discussion would not have been nearly as fun.
If anything else breaks on this story, if any more information becomes available, I will be sure to bring it to you.
Rick Jacobs “Creature” Continues to Intrigue..
Rick Jacobs, the man who photographed what many have suspected as a “Bigfoot”, is now making National News. I put up a post about this interesting story a couple of days ago and now the Associated Press has, as well.
By the sheer number of visitors to The Adventurist today..and the Blog Link by CNN, national attention is being put on these photos and has everyone wondering just what it is..
From comments here, at The Adventurist:
The animal in these pictures is not a bear. I’ve seen plenty of bears in my time, and I used to live in the NW Pa. area. I’m very familiar with the wildlife in the Bradford/Erie/Eldrid area, and I’m also familiar with the local stories that people have told for many years concerning “Bigfoot”. This is interesting and more attention from professionals should be focused on it.” commented Joe Brem.
“It’s a chimp. Look at it and think about all the nature shows you’ve ever seen. The first picture is it bending over to retrieve whatever was on the ground and the second picture is it eating from the ground, a common thing for chimps.
Now the question becomes why is there a chimp loose in PA?” This is coming from Morgan.
You can read this post and join in on the discussions taking place..as well as see the very interesting photos in question by clicking HERE.
The AP had the chance to talk to a few people at the Pennsylvania Game Commission and here is their theory:
‘There is no question it is a bear with a severe case of mange.”
They also go on to say that conservation officers routinely trap bears to be tagged that look like the images in the photos..
I think this is interesting how this is playing out on everyone’s mind. Take another look at the photos. Is it a really skinny bear? A Chimpanzee on the loose? Bigfoot? Tell me your thoughts.
