Adventurist Insight: Adventure Bay Media & Xtreme Adventurer.com
December 10, 2008
Some of my readers who follow me on Facebook (search Jason A. Hendricks) will already recognize that I have been working on a couple of projects over the past few weeks. Some of you who did not know what was going on have probably noticed a slight decrease in article output on The Adventurist. Sorry for that inconvenience, but now I can discuss my latest projects and where things are heading and what some of the future holds.
Adventure Bay Media
Adventure Bay Media is a new blogging network dedicated to big adventure, adventure/extreme sports, and related content. This is being ran in conjuction with Skinny Moose Media, who has offered me their full support and knowledge on this project.
The reason that they allowed me to pursue this new endeavor is quite simply because there was nothing else out there like it. There are outdoor networks, there are even knitting networks, but there was no network that specifically highlighted some of the great blogs and bloggers in the outdoors adventure world. I had thought about this for sometime, put a business plan together, and presented it to the best of my abilities. Luckily, they liked it and approved it.
The past two weeks I have been busy setting up the new network, tossing around and implementing new ideas, and also talking with some of the people involved in the Adventure industry. Up till now, I have received nothing but a good reaction on this project.
This is not Skinny Moose Media. I say that with the best of respect, but I also want to make sure that people are not confused by this launch. Skinny Moose Media is a business partner and both networks are being ran as separate entities. There will be things that are slightly different at Adventure Bay Media, things that I think might work out, and other things that we will be testing down the road. Steve and Tom Remington have come on board to support this venture through their knowledge and technological know-how of working with the Skinny Moose Media organization. I welcome the opportunity to work with them on a project of this size and hope to see this blossom into another great organization. From there, we will see what the future holds.
Xtreme Adventurer.com
With the launch of a new adventure media platform, it was inevitable that I would also want to take that opportunity and launch another site. Through the course of writing The Adventurist over the past two years, there have been a few things that I have stayed away from writing for the simple fact that I couldn’t see The Adventurist as being that outlet. One of the main topics is extreme sports.
Don’t get me wrong, I have tried to do this on occassion at The Adventurist, but my email box was soon flooded with questions about why I had changed what I was covering. People get use to the big expeditions and that is what they want to see-
Xtreme Adventurer.com will meld all of these interests into a nice, easy to read, format-without the politics-and hopefully offer up something that is fun to read and offers up another great outlet to get your adventure fix. Check it out>>>
The Adventurist
To be honest, The Adventurist was never looked upon as a set platform. Those that knew this site before it became The Adventurist, would also remeber that I wrote about a lot of different issues. The success that I have had while writing this blog has been unparalleled in the adventure community. What started out as a mere whimper has grown into a voice of the outdor adventure world.
So where does this leave The Adventurist?
In the simplest terms possible, I still have a lot of room to explore. The Adventurist will continue to be one of the leading adventure blogs in the world. There are a couple of areas that I will probably be delving into (for better, or worse) on a more regular basis. One of those areas is outdoor politics.
The voice that I now carry should be used to benefit and draw attention to bigger issues related to our adventure playgrounds. The political posts that I have made have received some great feedback and interest, as well as some controversy. Having that mix has a tendency to draw up debate. Debate is good for a site and can lead to a bigger understanding of current issues and where we all stand. I want to explore this avenue on a deeper level and draw in on some bigger discussions.
Besides that, nothing will change. I will still be covering the big expeditions..Everest, The South Pole, K2…but also throwing in a new element from time to time. I have always felt that it was better to not let everyone know what to expect, but to throw something out there and get the reaction. Sometimes it is best to not know what you are getting all the time. Everyone likes small surprises. (especially at Christmas time)
Busy, Busy
If there comes a day where you don’t see a new post on The Adventurist, be sure to check out Xtreme Adventurer–if neither one of those will work, then check out my Facebook page. It should be a rare occasion for me not to have something new up, but it does happen on occassion. It could be that I am out hiking the wilderness or biking a new trail. (yes, I do like to get out once in awhile)
Check out my new projects, tell me what you think, and I will be sure to try to get back to you. If you have thought about blogging and are interested in something adventure related…climbing, expeditions, extreme/adventure sports, conservation, then contact me and I will see what we can do. We do offer free blog hosting, domains. tech support..the works. All you have to worry about is the writing.
Before I forget, stop by and check out the latest blog on Adventure Bay Media: Alfresco Bay. It is a great read!
Cheers! And thanks for your time. You can comment below.
