Rock and Ice Magazine Gets 25th Anniversary Make-Over
December 20, 2008
Carbondale, Colorado – “Sometimes I think 5.10 is the greatest grade of all—it always keeps me on my toes,” writes executive editor Alison Osius in the Editor’s Note of the latest installment of Rock and Ice, the Everyman’s Issue.
Hitting newsstands everywhere, the Everyman’s Issue is not just an ode to the experience of climbing as most know it, but the first issue of 2009, which marks the 25th year of Rock and Ice magazine, the only publication owned and operated by climbers. To celebrate its silver year, Rock and Ice has revamped its award-winning product with a new design, even more stunning climbing photos, and steered editorial content toward the everyman.
“Climbers have always said they want articles covering climbs they can do and areas that they can easily visit,” says Duane Raleigh, publisher and editor in chief.” We listened. We’re taking the opportunity to celebrate our 25th Anniversary by giving back to the community that has made us the longest running climbing publisher, and the only one that shares our sport’s core values.”
Other issues on deck for 2009 include an inside look at climbing’s best jobs, perennial favorites such as the Photo and Health Issues, and the top budget travel destinations in the U.S. The party will culminate with “The Silver Issue, 25 Years of Rock and Ice,” timed to be released at next summer’s trade show.
Published nine times a year, Rock and Ice is renown for stunning images from the world’s most renowned climbing photographers such as Keith Ladzinski, Boone Speed, Nathan Smith, Cory Rich, and David Clifford—and the well-loved voices of writers such as John Long, Geof Childs, David Pagel, Doug Robinson and Julian Saunders.
“Getting Rock and Ice in my mailbox always gets me psyched,” says Ladzinski. “The high-quality photos and the magazine format makes the images jump off the page. It’s my magazine of choice.”

Editor’s Note: Rock and Ice Magazine is currently running a 2 subscriptions for the price of one deal. It would be a great time to get that subscription if you have been holding off. I can attest to their quality content and breathe-taking photos. Truly a top-notch publication. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for 2009! Jason A. Hendricks
