Will Gadd on Paragliding near Helicopters
October 8, 2007
The title may seem a little odd at first. Most of us will never be put in a situation where Paragliders and Helicopters mix…but, if we ever are……
Will Gadd, one of the world’s better known adventurers, has made an interesting post on his blog concerning some recent videography he is in the process of shooting–and some of the adventure that comes with it.
Will’s accomplishments are actually to numerous to put down here. He is a former X-Games champion Ice Climber. Won the 2000 Ice World Cup, along with every other competition he entered from 1998-2000. He is a world record distance holder in paragliding and the first person to Paraglide across the US. Made the first one day ascent of Mt. Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. Three time Canadian National Sport Climbing Champion, credited with numerous first descents in kayaking, Ice climbed since age 12, kayaked since 14, and been featured in National Geographic for his spelunking abilities..Need I go on?
His articles have appeared in Outside, Climbing, Rock and Ice, Alp, Cross-Country, and Paragliding Magazines to name a few..He has written scripts for at least 5 different television programs, been featured in numerous commercials, and is a certified stunt man. Seriously, how do you fit it all in?
Anyways his article is pretty entertaining and clues you in on what to do and expect, as well as what Not to do, if you are ever Paragliding with a Helicopter in view–hopefully we won’t have to worry about that, but it is informative none the less.
If this particular bit of information don’t rouse your interests, how about learning to skydive? Will takes us through those steps as well where even a big-time adventurer shutters in big air the first time out..
His recommendation? Do it more than once, forcing those fears aside. You might just discover that you enjoy it.
