April 8, 2008
Piotr Pustelnik is one step closer to achieving his goal of climbing all 14 of the 8,000 meter peaks in the world. Piotr is traveling with the mBank Annapurna West Face Expedition who recently completed acclimatization by climbing nearby Ama Dablam (6,912 meters) .
On April 3rd and 4th, the Annapurna West Face Expedition successfully made their summit bids on Ama Dablam and now ExplorersWeb is reporting that the team will be transported by helicopter to the Anna Purna Basecamp where they will begin an expedition to climb the north-west face, an unrepeated route put up by the Czech’s.
Fifty-six people have died trying to summit Annapurna, with only 103 people making a successful summit up to 2005. Annapurna, while being one of the highest peaks in the world is actually one of the smallest of the 8,000 ers, but it’s difficulty level is rated at on of the toughest.
The mBank Expedition has tried for the summit twice before on Annapurna, with both attempts being unsuccessful. Let’s wish all of the team the best of luck on trying this never before repeat of Annapurna’s West Face!
