Backpacker Magazine Getting Serious!

April 17, 2008

Backpacker Magazine, quite possibly the world’s leading magazine for backpackers, hikers, and campers, recently revamped their site–I have mentioned this previously, I know. As Backpacker is starting to get a bit more comfortable online, they are rolling out a whole slew of new features. Last week I posted about the new Backpacker Blogs, a great resource with daily updates.

The Daily Dirt, one of the newly presented Backpacker Magazine blogs, has brought us another great post about some of the latest features:

“While wandering the wastes of the Internet this morning, a universal truth suddenly dawned on me, like an epiphany from nowhere: “Oh yeah —BACKPACKER makes magazines, too!” In the spirit of that moment of enlightenment, we humbly present to you our March issue, fully gorgeous and online.

That’s right! Backpacker Magazine has offered up it’s latest magazine–the complete version–online and FREE. Hopefully this trend will continue in the months ahead!

Big addition #2–Backpacker has placed the 2008 Gear Guide online, which isn’t really a ‘new addition,’ as this guide happens to be the March Issue of Backpacker Magazine. I know Kraig, probably the biggest “Gearhead” (no offense) I know, who runs The Adventure Blog, will be screaming to check that one out–That’s cool though, Kraig, just click HERE and you can read it cover-to-cover–knowing him, he probably already owns it!

The Daily Dirt also mentions that Backpacker.com has started offering up their free, online newsletter–WEEKLY! I am sure all of this is going to add up to some great inspiration to get outside!

And the list keeps going–

Backpacker Magazine has released some more video updates, from their crew on the trail, trying to map the complete Continental Divide Trail–one HUGE project and a great undertaking.

If that isn’t enough–and quite frankly, I feel it is for one day–then swing on over and check out this great article on the Lewis and Clark Trail. It makes one want to grab that Daypack and head out in the sunset-

I’d never take offense to being called a “Gearhead”! :) I wear the title proudly!

Got something to say?
