Everest 2008: China (and Olympic Torch) On the Move Once Again On Mt. Everest

May 1, 2008

I am getting word from EverstNews that the Chinese Olympic Torch Relay Team on Mt. Everest is heading back up. This comes two days after a failed attempt due to high winds. The team currently has 16 torches with them. This could be the begining of their anticipated march to the summit. It is known that a slight weather window will be opening up on May 3rd, but they could possibly make a run a bit sooner, as long as the weather is stable.

It is also being noted that Chinese fighter jets are circling the area, making sure no funny business is going on with Tibetan protesters or climbers. I am sure this is quite the scene, especially from South base camp.

Will have to update when I get more info.
