The Cruel Irony - Blind Ambitions - Water fowling and dog training

The Cruel Irony

Here in NC, our season closed this past Saturday and remains closed until, the third split which is December 15. I can’t complain, it’s been a good year so far, more woodies than I have ever seen before, the Canada’s have been cooperating, and even got a few teal early on. The weather has been odd, we have had one or two nasty cold mornings, but mainly it has been a little warmer than average. So now that we are closed for two weeks, mother nature decides to blast some of the north east with some winter weather. Hopefully this winter storm will puch a large number of birds down and they will decide to hang out for awhile. I have to admit, during the duck season, I think I spend more time on the NOAA and Weather Channel sits than most folks do in a lifetime.

Never fails, does it? The weather turns perfect during the split season. Even worse is that, without fail, it seems like there’s always a good winter storm the week after the season ends… driving ducks and geese down off the Chesapeake Bay.

And all you can do is watch them fly.

Good luck with the last split. I hope to be down on the Cape Fear a day or two, in between deer hunts, to knock over a couple of woodies myself. Don’t get many of those out here in CA.
