SURLY Brewing Co. FURIOUS
I am closing out the week with a review of a hoptasticly hopped up beer. Surly Brewing Co. out of Brooklyn Center, MN mere miles from me is releasing some of their beers in these really kickin’ cans.

I have had the pleasure of enjoying one of the Surly beers on tap, but never in the can in my own home. This beer is truly only for hop heads. It pours out of the can deep brown to amber with a light foamy head that drops down to citrus grapefruit hop aroma.
Have I mentioned hops yet? Well, I’m guessing it will take me half a pound of hops for a five gallon batch to replicate this thing. It is seriously crazy! The first swig from the can (I couldn’t wait to find a glass) kicked the back of my mouth with that super huge HOP bitter. It seriously reminded me of chewing on a ripe hop cone without the grassy flavor! There is residual sweetness from the malt too. Straight from the can, this information tells the whole story.
16 FL. OZ.
6.2%ABV
IBUs - 99
Yup, thats 99, and I believe it! Unfortunately the four cans are hard to keep in the fridge, the first one didn’t even make it in there. The can that I am reviewing now waited an hour or two before I could open it and review it.
I’ve written enough. This is a hop monster, and it is good. If you like hops, crazy huge hops with some malty counter balance, you will like this beer.
Cheers!

That is EXACTLY the can I’ve been looking for to stuff in my fishing vest!! Think I can find it out here in Portland, OR?

Nope, sadly its completely local distribution so far. Although I think we might be able to arrange something off blog.
It trumps the el Nino double at the brewhouse, (if you remember that IPA) for hoppiness.
