Beer and Pot Roast
With fall here and the weather turning cooler, its time to pull the crock pot out of the closet and get it warmed up. One of my favorite methods for doing a roast is with beer. (Yeah, there’s a big surprise!)
Wash off the roast and put it in the bottom of the crock pot, sprinkle it with your favorite seasoning. I really like Penzy’s Barbecue of the Americas. Then I fill the crock pot up with veggies, first a couple potatoes, onion, carrots, celery and whatever else is in the bottom drawer of the fridge. Once its full I sprinkle a little more seasoning on top the veggies then pour in half a can or glass of whatever beer I have on hand.
Low for eight or high for four hours and away we go! I’ve been known to use a cola instead of a beer, but that is less appealing. I never use water. While I am on the never topic, I absolutely positively never ever use dried soup packets to season the crock pot. There is so much salt and MSG in those packets that it is scary.
The other thing I only tried once was that ready to go frozen packet in the store. The one where you open it up and pour it in the crock pot, it had even higher levels of salt and MSG than the soup packet! Yuck, stay away.
It takes me maybe five minutes to load the crock pot, then I’m in the free and clear for dinner. I’ve got the whole meal cooking!
Cheers!
Tony

I agree. Keep it clear of pre made packets. we have a roast on our menu (yes we preplan everything) for next week. Can’t wait

I should try scheduling meals. I grew up with a menu, but just don’t have the ambition to figure one out!
We tried those premade packets once. What a waste, for a few minutes more you get the real deal.
