Big 10 Women’s Basketball Bracket Set

For the 13th time, Indianapolis will host the Big 10 Women’s Basketball tournament. And for the 13th time, this should be a great tournament overall. Heading the pack is Ohio State as the number one seed, and it is the sixth straight year that the Buckeyes have had a first round bye–and the fourth straight year it has been #1, a first in the Big 10 tournament.
The first round games will be played on Thursday and feature #7 Michigan vs. #10 Penn State, #6 Indiana against #11 Northwestern and #8 Wisconsin facing #9 Illinois. On Friday, the 7-10 matchup will play against #2 Iowa, the 6-11 winner will go up against #3 Purdue, the 8-9 winner against big and mighty Ohio State, and #4 Minnesota plays #5 Michigan State.
While one would think Ohio State should have a great chance at winning–you cannot rule out Iowa, who actually tied with the Buckeyes at the end of the season. The chance that they will meet in the finals is actually pretty high–it’s quite a drop off in the conference standings when you consider Purdue is #3 and 11-7, whereby 2 of the 5 losses the Hawkeyes had were to Ohio State. If there’s any team that will make some big noise in the tourney, it should be the Boilermakers, who’s location is only a short 50 minute drive from Indianapolis, so they should certainly bring the crowd.
Either way, the tourney should be awesome–last year the tournament set a record for attendance, and with several games in not so many days, the action will be non-stop. Check it out if you can!!
