Wisconsin to face dangerous Davidson team, Curry

When the Wisconsin players picked their brackets, they probably thought that they would be facing USC in the second round and maybe even bit their nails a bit thinking about frosh phenom O.J. Mayo. That didn’t happen. They faced Kansas State and their balanced attack, but the Wisconsin defense and solid game play was too much for Michael Beasley and company.
Then, in the next round, the brackets would have normally had Georgetown and their Final Four experience to go up against in a matchup where offense would have been at a premium. That didn’t happen either. What Bo Ryan and the boys get is one of the most dangerous teams left in the tournament, Davidson.
While Davidson may not be huge in terms of the national scene, this has been a solid program for the last several years, and they have the guy that everyone is talking about, Stephen Curry. The son of former NBA star Dell Curry, this is a guy who is fearless and has basically hoisted his team onto his shoulders and carried them past Gonzaga and Georgetown.
And while Georgetown was certainly one of the better teams in the country, they really made a large mistake in trying to hammer the ball down in the pain in the second half. Center Roy Hibbert only played 5 minutes in the first half, and when that happened, the Hoyas looked wonderful and Davidson could not stop them. But when they brought him back in, it seemed like they just stopped playing to win and were playing not to lose, and with a team like Davidson, who has proven they have no knowledge of the word quit, it gave them the crack they used to blow the game open.
Wisconsin presents a different scenario with Davidson, as they have more depth in terms of inside strength and also they have been on fire this tournament in terms of locking down players. I really think that the Badgers will double team Curry and always have someone on him and make everyone else on Davidson beat them. They have a distinct advantage inside, but hopefully if the outside game is working, they won’t make the same mistake that Georgetown did and start trying to bang. While I think that the two-headed monster of Greg Stiemsma and Brian Butch could wear down the Wildcats, but I think that Bo Ryan will really have his team ready to go–Davidson may have gotten by a strong defensive team once, but I think the Badgers have proven they are better, if not the best, in the country. (Ok, no offense, UCLA fans).
