Curry too spicy for Badgers’ taste

Wisconsin came in with the resume. They had the ranking and the seeding. Davidson was the tournament’s darling, the team that Georgetown is still shaking their head about. Well, add the Badgers to the head shaking. Riding 33 points from Stephen Curry and great defense, as well as taking advantage of the first-half injury to Trevon Hughes, Cinderella still is hanging around the ball–with authority.
Hitting 8 of their first 12 three pointers, Davidson simply looked like the better team against Wisconsin, with more will, more heart, and better game planning than Wisconsin. Not discounting what Bo Ryan can do, but he never had a real answer for Curry nor the drive-and-dish efforts that the Wildcats seem to exploit basically whenever they wanted to; plus, the Badgers really got out of their regular slow down type of play pretty early–trying to match Davidson three pointer for three pointer.
At first it worked pretty well, as Brian Butch and Jason Bohannon seemed to be on a hot streak. But after the game was tied at half, Wisconsin just looked lost in the second half, and before they knew it, Curry had scored several baskets lightning-quick and they were down 10, then 12, then 15, and 19….and that was all she wrote.
The Badgers had a great year and while they ran into a buzzsaw of sorts, it still is disappointing that at least for the Big Ten’s sake they couldn’t go further. I think that the fact the conference sent two teams to the Sweet Sixteen was more than what people certainly presumed. Let’s just hope that Michigan State can make the biggest noise by upsetting Memphis–it’s a long shot, but definitely a possibility.
