Michigan State to have tough tests at Old Spice Classic

The field for the 2008 Old Spice Classic has been released, and Michigan State is included in the Thanksgiving affair in which Tom Izzo’s team will try to go the entire weekend undefeated and win the crown. The problem is that this field resembles a shortened NCAA bracket with all of the talent that will be playing game in and game out.
To say that the tournament is loaded is an understatement. Not only will the Sweet Sixteen Spartans be battling there, but also Georgetown, Gonzaga, Maryland, Oklahoma State, Siena, Tennessee and Wichita State. Seven of those eight teams qualified for postseason play in 2008, including five in the NCAA Tournament and two in the Sweet 16. Michigan State and Tennessee advanced to the Sweet 16, Siena and Georgetown advanced to the second round and Gonzaga also made the NCAA Tournament. Maryland and Oklahoma State played in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT).

Dang.

At least the Spartans will have a chance to go on Space Mountain. The Old Spice Classic happens over Thanksgiving weekend at Walt Disney. So even if they get beaten in the first round, there’s always the Tower of Terror, guys. (Even though they may argue that the real tower of terror could be on one of those teams they’ll face).
