NU Women stunned by Cal in NCAA quarterfinals

The Northwestern Wildcats Women’s Tennis team marched into the NCAA Championship bracket in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with swagger and a top seed. They breezed through the first two rounds with little difficulty, dispatching Illinois-Chicago, Indiana, and Fresno St. in pretty easy fashion. But then they ran into the 19-5 California Bears, and the wheels fell off the cart.
After winning one of the most exciting doubles points of the season, the team looked to move on with the singles’ play, but that was the turn of the match. The Golden Bears took control and just like that the Wildcats were down 3-1, and then it was just too late–Northwestern just couldn’t get it going and ended with a loss, going home with great disappointment.
This year marked some huge milestones for the women’s tennis program. The ‘Cats have broken every all-time team record this season, amassing more wins (29), shutouts (15), consecutive match victories (23) and team winning percentage (.935) than any other Northwestern women’s tennis program. Nice job, ladies!
