Keenan Davis’ commitment to Iowa Hawkeyes giving program needed boost

Amidst all of the hub-bub with Kirk Ferentz and the allegations surrounding the Iowa Hawkeye football program, the media has been feeding on the presumed lack of institutional control, and have even hinted at allegations that there was a cover-up. No one should go through this–so much for innocent until proven guilty.

But through these issues, the Hawkeyes got great news when Keenan Davis, who is ranked in the 2009 class among the top 25 high school receivers in the country, verbally committed to the Hawkeyes, giving Ferentz and Iowa a probably go-to guy in the years to come. Iowa beat out Illinois, Nebraska, and Oklahoma, among others, and Davis cited that Iowa and Illinois had recruited him very hard, and that the personal touch that the Hawkeyes showed to him throughout the recruiting process was what made the difference.

Davis is not a fleet-footed type of receiver that can out run swift safeties, but he has the size (6′3″) and hands (81 catches last year) that demand respect. He’s not afraid to go across the middle and is certainly a great athlete. This is the first big receiver catch that Ferentz has pulled in after losing out on big names like Dwayne Jarrett and Mike Williams before they went to USC over the past years.

It certainly is a silver lining amidst all of the gray clouds right now.
