Joe Paterno’s interview on Big Ten Tonight: Looney Tunes doesn’t do it justice

I am a Comcast subscriber and we just got our Big Ten Network last weekend. I have been rather busy but have had a few chances to catch different glimpses of what the BTN is all about. For the first time tonight, I watched the Big Ten Tonight show that highlighted Penn State and their preseason practice. For the first portion of the show, Coach Joe Paterno sat with the commentators, answering some pretty straight forward questions (I thought).
What I got was almost a sick feeling in my stomach watching this train wreck of an interview. Paterno has probably done more interviews than days I have been alive, but that doesn’t give him free reign in his haphazard way of basically not answering questions and when he does–it is about as awkward as watching someone performing poorly in the opening auditions of American Idol.
When asked about what the best thing he loved about coaching, he quick-wittedly answered that “Well, certainly not this,” but then went on to take like 2 minutes answering things like “I just love to get out and yell and smack guys around…” and rambled on with no real answer to the question. This continued for a while until it was obvious that the interview was going nowhere.
Hopefully he has more marbles with the X’s and O’s than he does with a mike in his face. For Penn State fans, I certainly would pray so….
