Game Rewind: Ohio State win clouded by Wells’ Foot Ouchie
Posted by Tim Gossett on August 31, 2008
The final was no big surprise. 43-0 over Youngstown State, ho-hum, pretty much the exact way it was supposed to go.
Wait a minute…not so much.
Despite the big win and Terrelle Pryor getting a lot of playing time and showing flashes of what the future of Ohio State football holds, the biggest play of the game wasn’t a big score, it wasn’t a huge hit, it wasn’t a long pass. Nope. It was this below:
Yes, the literal gasp you can hear in the Horseshoe happened when Chris “Beanie” Wells went down on this run, and he left the game amidst fans basically starting to already dread what may have happened. Well, a silver lining of the injury was that X-Rays were negative, but the extent of his injury is still unknown. One had to wonder that if it’s tender by Wednesday, that with USC facing the Buckeyes on Sept 13, that Wells won’t be held out as a precautionary measure.
No disrespect to Todd Boeckman, but everyone was waiting to see what Pryor would do and how he would be used. Boeckman had a solid game, but I think that I probably would have been able to do a bit of damage if I would have the O-line and running game that the Bucks have. Well…maybe. Regardless, you get my point.
Stay tuned, because Wells will be looked at closely over the next couple of days. Hopefully, for the sake of Ohio State fans and Big Ten fans as a whole, it isn’t as bad as it could be and he’ll be playing soon.
