The Big 10 conference has been taking all kinds of hits this week in the media and also across forums from facebook all the way to ESPN team boards. And maybe they are right–maybe it’s just time to ‘fess up that this conference is just a mediocre pool of talent that is a throwback model of basketball that simply cannot compete on a national level. I think in order to make things more streamlined and formative, I am going to start doing some frequent posting that encapsulates different items on certain days in order for fluidity to the site. That being said, here is what my schedule will be going forward per conference:

Monday-Big Ten

Tuesday-Pac 10

Wednesday-ACC

Thursday-Big East

Friday-Big 12

Saturday-SEC

Sunday-All others

In these daily capsules, I will have different posts discussing the previous week’s events, news, and future discussions about the teams and conferences themselves (not limiting to specific sports). I will also post on news events as they transpire with my two, or three cents, maybe even a dollar’s worth. For those of you out there that would like to have a discussion on a certain topic, shoot an email my way and I’ll be happy to give it a shot.

Alright, well maybe that was a liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittle melodramatic. But who would have thunk it? Vandy knocking on the door of the Top 10–in basketball? Really? At 15-0, the team has matched the school record for the best start in history. Their margin of victory average is in double digits. They have two players that are at or over 20 points a game.

The problem is….that they’ve played cardboard cutouts of basketball players. Of those 15 wins, they haven’t had a “real” win over a big school yet; of the 15 games, 12 have been at home, and includes such powerhouse eeker wins over South Alabama and Lipscomb (ok, that wasn’t an eeker, I just like saying Lipscomb) . However, here they are apparently amongst the best teams in the country.

The Commodores open the conference season for them tonight against South Carolina, and in the second half, the teams are tight, which is no surprise. Vandy has risen simply on the principle that they are in a good league and haven’t lost, but their season hasn’t really had any merit whatsoever. If you are looking for a team that will be brought back to reality pretty quickly, check Vandy’s record at the end of the season. They are a decent team, maybe a top 25 team, but they are not one that is amongst the elite.
