    Booze Battle!!!

New research shows more women are saying “bottoms up” and rates of alcoholism are rising as a result, especially for women born after 1953. Researchers studied data from two large national surveys- one conducted in 1991-1992 and the other in 2001-2002-each based on face-to-face, U.S. Census Bureau interviews of 43,000 men and women. Participants were asked about alcohol use and factors that suggest loss of control over drinking (such as failed attempts to stop). The researchers compared people surveyed at the same age. For example, people who were 38-47 years old in 1991-1992 were compared with people who were 38-47 in 2001-2002. They found the prevalence of alcohol use and alcoholism stayed about the same in men. But exept in the very youngest age group, women in the later survey reported significantly more alcohol use than women interviewed a decade ago. Among white and Hispanic women born after 1953, alcoholism was as much as 50%. No significant increase was seen among black women.  By: Heather, www.skinnymoose.com/health
