Get Centered!!!
The most common spot for a baby’s car seat is in the rear passenger side right? Wrong, according to a new study, the safest place is in the center of the back seat. Current child restraint safety guidelines recommended the center position as long as the car seat fits snugly, but those recommendations are based on research conducted a decade ago. Researchers recently analyzed accident data from 1998 to 2006 and found that children up to age 3 seated in a child restraint system in the center of the backseat had nearly half-43%-the risk of injury in motor vehicle crashes of children seated in a side position. They also found use of the center position decreased as the child got older. For example, 39% of car seats for infants under age 1 were placed in the center rear seat vs. 18% of car seats for 3-year-olds. The next time you head out in the car, take a moment to get yourself and baby centered! By: Heather Browning
