Do your part for the earth and your girth: Swap meat for veggies just once a week, and you could loose more than five pounds in a year. When Johns Hopkins researchers fed 54 men and women similar lunches (one mushroom based, the other meat-based), they consumed roughly 30 fewer grams of fat per day when they went veggie- and found the mushroom meals as satisfying as the beef alternatives. Not a fan of mushrooms? Subbing other low-cal, high-fiber vegetables like zucchini or eggplant may also do the trick.
