Youth Waterfowl Hunt Scheduled for October 4

    http://outdoornewsdaily.com/index.php/archives/5222

September 29, 2008 By: NewsEngine Category: Waterfowl Hunting News

The Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife is again providing young and disabled (non-ambulatory) hunters a special opportunity to hunt waterfowl Saturday, Oct. 4. Hunting is permitted statewide on private and public lands, including state wildlife areas and federal refuges. Check specific area regulations for lottery times and blind availability.

Young hunters must be between 10-15 years of age and accompanied by a licensed non-hunting adult at least 21 years of age. Hunters 13-15 years of age must have completed an approved hunter education course and possess a Delaware junior hunting license. Standard daily duck bag limits and regulations apply, with hunters also permitted to harvest snow geese and two Canada geese. Young hunters should be of sufficient size, physical strength, and emotional and mental maturity to safely handle a firearm.

The Division of Fish & Wildlife annually provides this and other special hunting opportunities to promote hunting and outdoor recreation among young hunters and provide additional opportunities for disabled hunters. Studies have shown that youngsters who participate in outdoor recreation activities are more likely to continue these pursuits as adults. In addition to the waterfowl hunt, a youth deer hunt is scheduled for November 1.

Good Search - you search, we give.

While reading the NRA Foundations news earlier, I ran across “Good Search”    It appears that you can use the internet search engines to help your favorite charity.  If you dont know how a search tool works,  I’ll give you a very brief summery.  When you type in something your searching for, the results on the page include advertising.  Goodsearch uses money paid by advertisers to donate to your favorite charity.  Pretty cool I think.  I dont know how much or what percentage goes to the chairty, but every penny counts in todays world of economic craziness.

After a few minutes I decided to try and list Hunters Helping Hunters.  It appears to be a simple form to fill out.  So we will wait and see if they put Hunters Helping Hunters on the list and let you know if or when it happens.

NRA Foundation Earns Highest Rating for Sixth Consecutive Year

For the sixth consecutive year, The NRA Foundation has received a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent evaluator of charities. Rated for efficiency and effectiveness, four stars is , Charity Navigator’s highest rating. In the past 15 years, the foundation has funded more than 11,000 grants totaling more than $72 million dollars, becoming America’s leading charitable organization in support of competitive shooting, range development, education and training, and the second amendment.

Charity Navigator’s Vince Bogucki said in a letter to the foundation, “Receiving four out of a possible four stars indicates that your organization excels, as compared to other charities in America, in successfully managing your finances in an efficient and effective manner.” He added, “This consistency in your rating is an exceptional feat, especially given the economic challenges many charities have had to face in the last year.”

The NRA Foundation raises money in a variety of ways, ranging from philanthropic individuals, businesses and foundations to its volunteer-driven Friends of NRA program. Organized by volunteers throughout the country, this grassroots program has raised more than $70 million since its inception in 1992.

    Wheelchair Accessible Hunting

For some hunters, sitting in the seat all day can really test a hunter’s dedication.  Most get up and move around or head somewhere else in hopes of some action.  But for those who are restricted to a wheelchair, every hunt is a test of the dedication.  Wheelchair accessible hunting is a very popular activity for both men and women who like to be outdoors.   With today’s choices in wheelchairs, adaptive equipment, hunting clubs, accessible hunting lands, and special groups that are dedicated to disabled hunters, opportunities for hunting have never been greater.

Internet sites related to hunting are probly in the millions with new ones every day.  Most of the bigger and better sites all have sections just for disabled hunters.  You can talk to others who share similar stories, tips, ideas, and even hunts.  Alot of groups, friends and hunts happen when people start talking on these websites.  In 2001 a national non-profit group was started because of discussions between friends in a popular hunting website.  That website, the North American Hunting Club’s message board’s Life Members forum, organized and forms what is now known as Hunters Helping Hunters.  They are a 501c3 charity that helps hunters and their families in times of need.

Back to wheelchair accessible hunting….   if your interested in hunting from a wheelchair, check out the “Help Central” page here at help4hunters.com  I have listed a few of the websites that I think are some of the best from my web searches, so far.  I’m always adding if I can find good sites.  I list groups and equipment so check it out.  And let me know if you have any that are good and if any of mine are not linked anymore.

    News from the Roost

JACKSON, S.C. — Turkey talk, good food and lots of laughs were the order of the day at the National Wild Turkey Federation’s Wheelin’ Sportsmen Ultimate Turkey Hunt, held at the Savannah River Site (SRS) in Jackson, S.C., April 18 to April 19.

The hunt, put on as part of the NWTF’s Wheelin’ Sportsmen outreach program, has been helping hunters with disabilities enjoy wild turkey hunting at SRS since 2004. This year, 27 hunters teamed up with SRS employees and harvested a total of 17 gobblers on a sunny Saturday morning.

“I really look forward to this every spring,” said David Cianfarano, a disabled veteran from Fountain Inn, S.C. “If it wasn’t for the NWTF and their Wheelin’ Sportsmen program, I wouldn’t be out here today enjoying myself, and wouldn’t have been able to experience the thrill of getting this gobbler,” Cianfarano said. “I’ve been here every year for five years, and I definitely don’t plan on missing next year.”

An appreciation dinner was held Friday night before the hunt, and included a silent auction and shotgun raffle to raise money for the Wheelin’ Sportsmen NWTF program. For uncle and nephew team Jack and James Laughridge from Anderson, S.C., luck was certainly in their favor. James won the raffle on a new Benelli shotgun Friday night, and uncle Jack bagged a nice bird the next morning.

“Awesome, awesome weekend!” said James, high-fiving his uncle on the way back to the truck.

NWTF Wheelin’ Sportsmen Assistant National Coordinator Illana Burkhart thanked everyone involved in the hunt, including the U.S. Department of Energy- Savannah River Operations Office, the U.S.D.A. Forest Service, Wackenhut Services, Inc., Washington Savannah River Company, the Aiken County NWTF Chapter and the Aiken Sertoma Club.

“The SRS staff is great to work with, and the local chapter members always invest tons of time and work into the event,” said Burkhart. “This isn’t work for me. We love coming back to SRS to help give local mobility-impaired hunters another opportunity to enjoy the the outdoors.”

Wheelin’ Sportsmen NWTF provides all people with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors through local chapter events nationwide. The program also provides a full-color, quarterly magazine to its members. Wheelin’ Sportsmen magazine is dedicated to the education and entertainment of outdoors enthusiasts with disabilities.

Whether it is shooting, hunting, fishing or archery, there is no limit to the outdoor opportunities Wheelin’ Sportsmen NWTF can bring to a person with disabilities who’s eager to get outside and participate in an active lifestyle.

    HHH, a great organization

I want to take a moment to thank the Hunters Helping Hunters organization for helping me out from when I had my accident late last year.
Mike Bell had been working with me. It took them awhile, but they came through with a donation. I’m not going to be working anymore, because of the accident. Buckee told me about them; and Ken made a post on here for me to contact them after I got hurt. They helped me out alot.
Folks, if you find yourself with extra charitable money, please think about donating to HHH. It is a caring organization, and can use some help to keep on helping folks in need.
Mike Bell told me tonight that he is in the process of making up a blog about many different charitable organizations. He should get it finished by weeks end.
    Thanks for reading this.
