The other day on the Treestand Investor blog, I posted a release on a charity auction to fight breast cancer. Last month I think I posted here about charity auctions and that Hunters Helping Hunters was in the process of setting up some auction fundraisers to help our fellow hunters in need.
GunBroker.com® (www.gunbroker.com) joined the fight against breast cancer, hosting a charity auction of an unusual pink rifle that raised $3,575.
The pink AR-15 style DPMS Panther Lite rifle with 16-inch barrel was donated by DPMS Panther Arms. Its auction was viewed more than 23,000 times and attracted 34 bids.
“This charity auction supports the fundraising goals of the GunBroker.com Family Team to help in the fight against breast cancer, one of the leading causes of death in women around the world,” said Steve Urvan, owner of GunBroker.com. “Although many of our buyers and sellers are men, they are touched by this disease through their wives, mothers and daughters. We wanted to do our part to help improve treatment and save lives.”

Hunters Helping Hunters is in the process of setting up a few chairty auctions to help raise funds for hunters who need a little help. This time of year is really hard on families when they are also trying to deal with medical or other family emergancies.
The idea of a charity auction has been discussed over the last several meetings and HHH is closer the setting up an account. In the past HHH has benifited from donated hunts and items that where auctioned off by fellow hunters who then donated the proceeds to Hunters Helping Hunters.
One group who has gone above and beyond their call of duty has been the Life Members at the North American Hunting Club’s members forum. Over the years, this group of fine people held many, many auctions to help HHH help others. Sometimes when needed, they held auctions on a monthly basis! Talk about hunters helping others!
Hunters Helping Hunters will continue its mission of helping our fellow hunters in need. But without fundraising that would be very hard to do. And a charity auction is a great way to help HHH help others. One auction plan is to have a turkey hunting package up for auction. Maybe you or I could bid on a few custom turkey calls and hunting vest, and what if somebody donated a hunt…….. would’nt that be nice!
So stay tuned as HHH finishes its plans for this fun and exciting tool for helping our fellow hunters. And dont forget to contact Hunters Helping Hunters if you have some items you want to donate for a tax deduction……. oh yea did we forget about donating to the cause? It will be tax time shortly!

Youth Turkey Hunt Weekend Summary
The Northern New York chapter of Hunters Helping Kids, Inc. held their 3rd annual Youth Turkey Hunt weekend event on April 26 & 27th, 2008. Fifty youngsters between the age of twelve thru fifteen registered for the event with fourteen hunters harvesting a turkey.
On Saturday the 26th, after the turkeys were weighed in and pictures taken, hot dogs and hamburgers were served at the Sandy Pond Sportsmen Association’s Clubhouse to the youth hunters, their family and the callers. The Oswego County 4-H had their laser hunting game for the youth, which all enjoyed trying their luck. Also Katie Eastman gave a seminar, “The Life Cycle of a Turkey” which gave the young hunters some knowledge of the turkey.
On Sunday, back to the SPSA clubhouse again, there was weigh-in of the birds with pictures. Mr. Don Miller of Lakeside Taxidermy gave a demonstration of a full turkey mount, prior to a delicious roast beef dinner. Prizes were handed out to all the youth turkey hunters, even the younger youth were given something to take home. Dallas won the essay contest and won a Primo hunting blind. There were numerous door prizes given to the youth. Also the lucky successful hunter’s name drawn was Ora and he won a full turkey mount from Lakeside Taxidermy in Fulton.

We were honored to have in attendance: NY State Senator Darrel Aubertine, Assemblyman Will Barclay, Oswego County Legislator of District I, Margret Kastler, NYS DEC officer Matt Harger, the new Pennsylvania HHK chapter, headed by Mr. & Mrs. Troy Miller and Mike Strickhouser with his daughter, Danielle, which was one of the successful youth turkey hunters plus Mr. Dale Dodson, National Director of Operations of Hunters Helping Kids who flew in from North Carolina to take part in the event.
A big THANK YOU goes out to the Sandy Pond Sportsmen’s Assn, the many sponsors and all the volunteers that made this a big success.
