    Protect your Right-to-Carry

Courtesy of the National Rifle Association (NRA)

U.S. Senate To Vote On National Right-To-Carry
    Reciprocity Amendment Early This Week

Contact Your U.S. Senators TODAY And Urge Them To Support Your Right To Self-Defense  by voting YES on the Thune-Vitter Amendment!

The U.S. Senate is now considering the National Defense Authorization Act (S. 1390).  As a part of the consideration of that legislation, Senators John Thune (R-SD) and David Vitter (R-LA) will offer an amendment this week  to provide for interstate recognition of Right-to-Carry permits.  There is a very high likelihood of a Senate floor vote on this important and timely pro-gun reform between now and Wednesday.

Now is the time for Congress to recognize that the right to self-defense does not end at state lines.  Under the Thune-Vitter amendment, an individual who has met the requirements for a carry permit, or who is otherwise allowed by his home state’s state law to carry a firearm, would be authorized to carry a firearm for protection in any other state that issues such permits, subject to the laws of the state in which the firearm is carried.

Contrary to “states’ rights” claims from opponents who usually favor sweeping federal gun control, the amendment is a legitimate exercise of Congress’s constitutional power to protect the fundamental rights of citizens (including the right to keep and bear arms and the right of personal mobility).  States would still have the authority to regulate the time, place and manner in which handguns are carried.

Expanding Right-to-Carry will enhance public safety, and certainly poses no threat to the public.   Criminals are deterred from attempting crimes when they know or suspect that their prospective victims are armed.  A study for the Department of Justice found that 40 percent of felons had not committed crimes because they feared the prospective victims were armed. The Thune-Vitter amendment recognizes that competent, responsible, law-abiding Americans still deserve our trust and confidence when they cross state lines.  Passing interstate Right-to-Carry legislation will help further reduce crime by deterring criminals, and — most important of all — will protect the right of honest Americans to protect themselves if deterrence fails.

The Thune-Vitter Amendment represents a giant step forward in the protection of the basic right to self-defense.  Its passage will recognize that the rights of law-abiding Right-to-Carry permit holders should be respected, even when they travel outside their home state.

Gun control groups, including New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s “Mayors Against Illegal Guns” are running ads trying to scare your lawmakers and the American people into opposing this crucial Right-to-Carry reform.  It is critical that your U.S. Senators hear from you immediately.

Please be sure to contact both of your U.S. Senators today, and urge them to cosponsor and support the Thune-Vitter interstate right to carry recipocity amendment.   E-mail and call them immediately!

Smith and Wesson helps raise awareness of Breast Cancer

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Smith & Wesson Commences Donations To Breast Cancer Awareness Charity

Proceeds of M&P9 JG Pistol to Support Education, Research and Treatment

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 26, 2009) – Smith & Wesson Corp., announced today that the company has made its first quarterly donation to the Massachusetts Affiliation of Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization through proceeds collected from the sale of the M&P9 JG pistol. The funds donated will benefit breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment.

Smith & Wesson designed the M&P9 JG in collaboration with Professional Shooter Julie Goloski Golob with the intent that a portion of the proceeds would benefit breast cancer awareness. The M&P9 JG is a polymer frame pistol that incorporates several competition-specific features requested by the champion shooter. The full-size pistol is engraved with the ‘Awareness Ribbon’ on the slide and is packaged with two pink grip inserts (small and medium) along with the three standard black grip inserts.

“Many of our lives have been touched by breast cancer and Smith & Wesson is very proud to be supporting the Susan G. Komen foundation in order to help support research, increase education and to promote early detection of breast cancer among both women and men,” said Tom Kelly, Vice President of Marketing for Smith & Wesson. “As the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists, the foundation reaches out to thousands of communities across the globe. Smith & Wesson fully supports these efforts and is pleased to be able to play a small role in the fight against cancer.”

Chambered in 9mm, the M&P9 JG features a fiber optic front sight along with a Warren® Tactical rear sight on top of the 4 ¼-inch barrel. For enhanced durability, the M&P9 JG has a Zytel® polymer frame reinforced with a ridged steel chassis and a through-hardened black Melonite® stainless steel barrel and slide. This combination of features provides unparalleled shootability and dramatically reduces felt recoil. The M&P9 JG has a capacity of 17+1 and is shipped with two magazines. The striker fired action trigger system features a 6 ½-pound trigger pull and has been designed with an over-travel stop for enhanced performance. Another distinct feature that separates the M&P line from other polymer pistols is that it does not require the user to press the trigger in order to field strip the firearm.

Ray Howell awarded Muzzy Tall Man Award

    Muzzy’s Tall Man Award

Photos and Text By Lisa Metheny

Muzzy awarded its annual Tall Man Award at this year’s Archery Trade Show in Indianapolis, Indiana to legendary bowhunter Ray Howell. The Tall Man Award is one of the highest honors given within the archery industry and is the top honor handed out by the broadhead maker Muzzy®.  dsc_0098e

The Tall Man Award is given to individuals that “stand tall” within the industry, more than just excellent archery skills are required to be considered for this award by Muzzy. Commitment to the sport of archery, a dedication to preserving the bowhunting heritage and a willingness to help others achieve their dreams through archery are just a few of the characteristics that Muzzy looks for before they name a Tall Man.

Ray Howell of Kicking Bear 1 on 1 fits all those character requirements by Muzzy. With a life long dedication to the sport of archery and commitment to making trouble youths lives better through his Kicking Bear programs, Howell is certainly worthy of such a distinguishing award.

Reading the names of previous recipients is like reading a list of “who’s who” within the bowhunting industry, names such as Judy Kovar, Dr. Dave Samuel and Joella Bates to mention a few. Muzzy once again hit the bull’s-eye with this year’s recipient Ray Howell.

“Ray is an inspiration, having started out in life with the odds stacked against him. Foster homes and getting in trouble with the law, one person who took the time take him hunting, completely turned his life around.  Unlike most others, instead of using a tough start in life as an excuse, he is a shining example of giving back.  His kicking bear camps touch thousands of youth.  We are thrilled to recognize him for all he does for our sport.” reflects Michele Musacchia-Eichler, CEO of Muzzy Products

Howell’s actions are what speak loudest to those that are willing to listen. His selfless dedication teaching archery and outdoor skills to troubled kids thru the program he developed called Kicking Bear 1 on 1, is probably what sets Ray Howell apart from the others. With his deep faith and desire to give something back his organization is truly changing the lives of kids all over the country.

Pass It On-Outdoor Mentors NEEDS YOUR HELP

Press Release courtesy of Pass It On-Outdoor Mentors

We’re coming down to the end of a very exciting year for the Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors program.  We’d like to ask your help in making sure that next year is even better!

In addition to our efforts to give kids across the country opportunities to spend time in the outdoors that we all know and love, we have been recognized by the National Forum on Children and Nature as one of 30 programs they are endorsing as being able to improve children’s health and overall well-being, while encouraging them to rediscover America’s great outdoors.

Giving children an opportunity to go hunting or fishing or camping or hiking…to experience the outdoors that we all know and love is the focus of Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors.  Richard Louv, author of “Last Child in the Woods”, put it well when he said, “As a matter of policy, the conservation services should view the child-in-nature as an endangered species of the future – because if the young are not bonding with nature now, who will care about the refuges in the future?”

This last year, we were able to give children over 1,100 days outdoors.  Given the resources we have at hand, we feel that’s not a bad number.  But when you look at the number of kids who desperately need a chance to connect with nature, it’s a very small number indeed.

Now, with the recent endorsement of the Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors program by the National Forum on Children and Nature, we are asking everyone we know to step up and make a contribution that will help us take this program to even greater heights in the coming year. Your gift is especially important at this time.  Without your gift now, we cannot grow. Without your help, we cannot give more children time outdoors.  Yes, it’s a donation, but it’s also your personal investment to insure our outdoor heritage for generations to come.

I thank you for all of your support of Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors and hope that you will consider generously donating to help us as we get ready to expand our program in the coming year.

You can click here to make your tax-deductible donation securely online (via PayPal…no PayPal account is required).  Or you can send your donation to our address below.

Best Wishes for this Blessed Season!
