Stuck in the woods? Eat Bugs.

So you find yourself stuck in the woods, eat bugs. With just a little knowledge you will know what you can and can not eat. All most anywhere on earth you will find bugs, while different with just knowing the basics you can survive.

Pound for pound insects have the most nutrition anywhere. Most insects are edible raw and usually more nutritious that way but they are more palatable cooked. Boiled is the best way to cook the little guys, it destroys harmful bacteria and parasites. Roasting is the easiest way to cook your bounty, just put them on a rock and place them close to the fire.

Termites are easy to find and pretty safe, just take off the wings and cook. Bees and wasps are all edible. Ants are edible, however; they all need to be cooked for at least 6 minutes to destroy any poison. Locusts/cricket/grasshoppers are big and a great source of food. They can be eaten raw, but toasted they make a great treat. So I have heard.

DO NOT gather insects feeding on dung or refuse, they are likely to carry infection. DO NOT eat brightly coloured insects (including caterpillars) they are likely poisonous. DO NOT eat grubs found the on the underside of leaves they most likely secrete poisonous fluids. DO NOT go near large bettles, they have powerful jaws and can bite and pinch.

Now with everything I listed in the DO NOT paragraph they can all be used as bait, just put a hook in them and get yourself a fish. Remember to wash your hands after you handle these critters. Just remember to gut your fish to remove the insects.
