Day off from Hunting is a good day for a Photo Shoot Originally posted 01/06

A multi day hunting trip, with lots of predawn trips into the field and rarely did my head hit the pillow before 11pm, with a day off most folks may choose it as a day to catch up on some rest but not I.  Being so close to the outer banks I couldn’t resist the opportunity to take a ride and look for some photo opportunities.  A winter Sunday morning there was not any crowds to fight.  I was a bit shocked that after the past few days of hunting around Lake Phelps the temperatures were in the 60’s that Sunday was a bit cooler and we actual saw some snow on the ground around the outer banks.

I didn’t have much time but I headed up to the  Currituck Lighthouse.

I got some great photos of the light house and some of the other sights around the area.

With the weather taking a turn for more winter like weather and the winds being real strong there was no birds on the sound to photograph.  I did capture the wind blowing through the marsh grasses at the edge of the sound as well as the snow covered (what little there was) boardwalk.

We did find a flock of Canadian geese taking shelter in a holding pond just off a large parking lot.  Careful shooting and cropping it is hard to tell they were surrounded by fast food restraints and strip malls.  I guess you take advantage of what you are offered and make the best of it.

By tagging my swan on Friday that gave me the opportunity to tote my camera afield on Monday while everyone else had a 12 gauge.  Action was fast but I got some shots I really like.

Still need to practice on catching action some of the photos I cut heads off, or the shot is out of focus etc.  The only way I know to fix them is to practice and shoot as often as possible.  The camera really extends my hunting season because I can keep shooting even after my tags are filled or the season is closed.  I had a great trip and between the two digital cameras and the SLR film camera I shoot over 150 photos.
