Next Generation

July 5, 2006

We all know the importance of teaching outdoor skills to young people if we want to see our traditions continue in the future.  Hunting shows are good in some aspects but they also make our sport seem very easy, over play the use of gadgets, and for the most part focus to much on the kill.  That is why I was so excited when I heard sometime ago about this new show Bass Pro Shop was sponsoring called Next Generation.

It’s a new kind of outdoor TV show hosted by six teenagers growing up fishing and hunting who want to share these outdoor experiences with you.
Every week the Bass Pro Shops Next Generation team will take you on great adventures from across the country as they learn more themselves about how to be successful in the outdoors.

I’ve had the opportunity to talk with some of the guides that guided one of the young ladies on a turkey hunt in North Carolina this past spring.  They were very impressed with her skills and overall outdoor knowledge as well as her drive when the hunting got tough.

Additionally I understand that how it happens is how it will be shown so there will be some shows where the kids can’t fill a tag or they mess up which is a more realistic approach.   The show is geared towards young people and will air on Saturday Mornings and to think when I was a kid Elmer Fudd  was about the only hunter you could find on Saturday Morning TV.

Thanks for the post. I am one of the six teenagers. I’m glad you believe in the show and share the same passions as we do.

    Thanks,
    Brandon

[...] I enjoy reading about young people getting involved in hunting and it’s even better when they reach out to others to join the ranks. I was pretty excited about Next Generation this new show Bass Pro is sponsoring and even did an earlier story about it. Real Tree Journal has a post by Brandon Wikman Next Generation Pro Staff about a hunt he did in Buffalo County Wisconsin. [...]
