All is not lost with the one that got away

There are many tales about the big one that got away. This one is especially heartbreaking — and maddening.Dillon Williams, 9, of Delco, was fishing recently at Yaupon Pier on Oak Island when he hooked a large tarpon. The fish, estimated at 150 pounds, jumped spectacularly three times. It was a struggle, but Dillon made progress in gaining line on the lunker. Then …

A private boat ran between the pier and the tarpon, cutting the line and freeing the fish.

Witnesses say there was retributive justice, however.

The monofilament line fouled in the boat’s propeller and the engine came to a stop. The boat drifted ashore well down the beach to the cheers of other anglers on the pier.
