Stand Out this Year When You go Afield

    Oct 06, 2006 @ 04:28 pm by Moose

On the eve of the start of the Eastern Muzzleloader season a quick reminder about wearing your blaze orange.

In North Carolina, hunters are required to wear a cap or hat of blaze orange color (also known as hunter orange, fluorescent orange or 10-mile cloth) or an outer garment, like a vest, in blaze orange that is visible from all sides, when hunting bear, deer, wild boar, rabbit, squirrel, grouse, pheasant or quail with a firearm.

NC Wildlife Blaze Reminder Press Release

Missing from that press release are a couple of things to keep in mind. If you chose to use a bow during the firearm season you still must meet the orange requirement.

with the recent popularity of pop up blinds, although there is no law requiring it, for your own safety attached some blaze orange outside the blind so other hunters can see it. I know some have talked about using orange ribbon but if you hunt areas that have or are being sectioned off for development or timber harvest other hunters may see that as a survey mark and not necessarily as another hunter in the area. I take a blaze orange vest and wrap it around a nearby tree so it is visible to any other hunter who might be in the area. Be safe and I hope everyone has a great season.
