Wildlife Officers are investigating a case in Brunswick County where someone shot an alligator and 3 deer and dumping them all in a lake.
Over the weekend residents spotted an dead alligator and three dead deer floating in a pond near Orton Plantation.
Wildlife officers found three shotgun shell casings at the scene. They are hoping to match the evidence to a gun and a suspect.
N.C. Wildlife officer Brandon Dean said, “Somebody who does something like this, they can’t keep their mouth shut. They have got to brag about it. Word is going to travel. That’s how a lot of cases are solved.”
Officers say this is a serious crime, because the American alligator is a protected species.
The person who committed this crime will face charges for killing the animals, plus a fine of more than $4,000 for killing the alligator.
