Forget the ThermaCell Pack the Thermal Underwear

The youth turkey-hunting day is this Saturday and in what could be a cruel twist of fate the temperatures are going to drop like a rock. This Easter in North Carolina will be colder then Christmas Day was so much for spring.
What will the impact on the Turkeys be? I’m not really sure but from people I’ve talked to we expect that the gobbling will be shut down. To give you and idea of how drastic the Temperature change will be earlier this week we have had temperatures at sunrise in the 50-60’s range Saturday the temperature is expected to be in the mid 20’s. The high for the day may not match the sunrise temperatures from earlier in the week.

I think we can expect that the birds may stay on the roost a bit longer and I would expect they would fly down to areas where they can get some sun. I would focus on sunny locations like fields, logging roads and any place where the sunlight can hit the ground without obstruction.

Dressing the young hunter you may want to use more of the hunting clothing that you dress them in for a December deer hunt. It’s important to dress in layers so if you do a lot of moving that things can be taken off and put back on when you sit. As crazy as it may sound hand warmers may be what you need to help keep the young ones comfortable and still while they wait for Mr. Tom.

I’d like to post up here how the youth hunt goes so please feel free to send me a blurb about how your hunt went as well as a photo or two and I’ll try to comply them and put them up here. Good Luck to all and I hope everyone has a safe successful hunt.

    1. It’s colder than a well digger’s hind end up here too. Good luck!
