Forget the Lemonade Stand
April 8, 2007
A couple of entrepreneurial boys found a way to make some money shortly after discovering a 180 lb black bear in tree in their yard in Sterlington La.
Ten-year-old friends Drake Harp and Britt Wade didn’t expect to spend their Easter break putting up an admission sign inviting passers-by into Britt’s front yard for the bargain price of $2.
But that was before Drake spotted a black bear in a tree in his friend’s front yard Friday.
The black bear had wandered in from Arkansas and after a brief stay he was sent back to Arkansas.
The black bear, which had identification tags and a collar, apparently strayed from a wildlife area in Arkansas, said Walter Cotton of the U.S. Agriculture Department.
Cotton sedated the bear with a tranquilizer dart Friday afternoon. She fell from the tree and Ouachita Parish firefighters caught her in a tarp.
Cotton said she will be returned to an undisclosed location in Arkansas.
Well this is certainly a twist on the old lemonade stand I would caution people about getting to close to any wild animal even if it has a collar on it.
